Gunmen Attack in Pakistan’s Kurram District: Four Dead, Three Injured

In the Kurram district of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, a deadly attack on two passenger vehicles resulted in the loss of four lives and left three others injured. Gunmen with automated weapons opened fire, claiming the lives of at least four individuals, including two security personnel. District Police Officer, Muhammad Imran, confirmed the grim details.

The attackers targeted a passenger coach and a car in the Sadda area of the Kurram District. The intensity of the attack led to the immediate death of four people, including a driver, a woman, and two security personnel. Three others, critically injured, were left to fight for their lives.

Security forces and rescue teams swiftly responded, transporting the injured to a nearby hospital’s intensive care unit. Dr Qaiser Abbas, the deputy medical superintendent of Parachinar district headquarters hospital, confirmed the death toll and the condition of the wounded.

Following the attack, security measures were heightened in the area, with a search operation initiated to locate and apprehend the attackers. As of now, no organization has claimed responsibility for the violent act.

In addition to the violence in Kurram district, Pakistan experienced an internet shutdown impacting access to key social media platforms. However, no direct connection has been established between the internet shutdown and the attack in the Kurram district.

The attack in Kurram district serves as a reminder of the rising terror-related incidents in the country, with 2023 witnessing an alarming 419 militant attacks and 620 deaths in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa alone. As the hunt for the perpetrators continues, the people of Pakistan are left grappling with the shock and fear instilled by this violent incident.
