Girl Finds Mother Dead Inside Harris County Home

A child was unharmed after reporting her mother was unresponsive late Thursday.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Deputies are investigating the deaths of a woman and man found late Thursday inside a northwest Harris County home after a 12-year-old girl called 911, officials said.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said the preliminary evidence points to an apparent murder-suicide inside the home in the 12500 block of Baldwin Springs. The girl, who authorities said lived there with the adults, was found safe outside when deputies and EMS arrived around 11 p.m.

Officials said the girl called for help after finding her mother unresponsive. Deputies entered the home and found the woman dead. They later found a man dead in a separate room. Investigators said the man was believed to be the woman’s husband or partner and the girl’s stepfather. Authorities said all three had lived at the home for an extended period, though they did not give a precise timeline.

Deputies said a weapon was found at the scene. They did not immediately describe the weapon or say whether both adults had gunshot wounds. Investigators also said they saw no obvious sign of forced entry and had not found evidence that another person entered the home and fled. The sheriff’s office said the case remained preliminary and that detectives were still working to confirm the sequence of events.

The next steps include forensic examinations, formal identification of the adults and interviews with people who may have information about the household. Detectives were also reviewing nearby surveillance video to help establish when the deaths occurred. No suspect was being sought Friday, and officials did not report a continuing danger to the surrounding neighborhood.

The girl’s 911 call was central to the initial response. Authorities said she was physically unharmed, but they did not release details about who took custody of her after the scene was secured. The sheriff’s office also did not disclose whether deputies had been called to the home before Thursday night.

As of Friday, the deaths had not been formally ruled by the medical examiner’s office. The sheriff’s office continued to describe the case as an apparent murder-suicide while awaiting final findings.
