Firefighter Killed and 10 Injured in Sterling Home Explosion

Sterling, Virginia – A devastating explosion has rocked a neighborhood in Sterling, Virginia, claiming the life of a firefighter and injuring 10 others. The explosion, which occurred on Silver Ridge Drive, left a trail of debris and destruction that impacted not only the affected home but also neighboring properties.

The blast, resulting in a chimney being the only part left standing of the house, was felt by residents several houses down the street. The impact was so intense that insulation and wood framing from the exploded home found their way into neighboring yards. Witnesses described the terrifying experience, with one resident comparing the noise to that of a bomb.

According to reports, the explosion was related to a leaking 500-gallon underground propane tank found on the property. Firefighters had initially responded to calls about a gas leak in the area, and despite some residents not being able to smell the gas, the fire department’s investigation pointed to the leak as the cause of the explosion.

The incident resulted in the tragic loss of 45-year-old Trevor Brown, a dedicated member of the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company. In addition to Brown’s death, 10 other first responders were injured, including career and volunteer firefighters from nearby counties. The two occupants of the home were also injured but have since been released from medical care.

In the aftermath of the explosion, the community has come together to support the affected families. Efforts to raise funds for the firefighter’s family and provide assistance to the homeowners have been initiated, showcasing the resilience and unity of the neighborhood in the face of tragedy.
