Las Vegas, Nevada – A tragic incident unfolded Tuesday when a man was fatally shot by an assailant at a southwest valley apartment complex in what authorities believe to be a random attack. The victim, who was working with his brother in a cleaning business, fell victim to the senseless act of violence.
Las Vegas police responded to a call at the Venicia Apartments on South Fort Apache Road near West Twain Avenue around 4 p.m. There they found the victim near a white van at the complex entrance, where attempts to save his life were unfortunately unsuccessful. The victim later succumbed to his injuries at University Medical Center.
According to Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Jason Johansson, witnesses described the shooter as a person with facial tattoos carrying multiple bags who fled the scene through the front entrance of the complex. However, patrol officers managed to capture the suspect, who turned out to be a woman, in a nearby neighborhood.
The suspect, who was not a resident of the complex, had reportedly been attempting to break into cars on the property. Johansson revealed that as the victim and his brother were inside their carpet cleaning van, conducting business, the suspect approached the vehicle, pulled out a handgun, and shot the victim without any prior interaction.
Described only as a woman in her twenties with a criminal record, the suspect’s actions resulted in the tragic loss of a hardworking individual who was simply doing his job. The victim’s brother, who was also present at the scene following the incident, expressed deep sorrow at the turn of events.
The cleaning business, named Immaculate Restoration and Carpet Care, located in southeast Las Vegas, was visibly marked on the side of the white van where the victim and his brother worked. The heartbreaking impact of the shooting was underscored by the victim’s sibling, who lamented the loss and the challenges faced by their family.
