PATNA, India: A tragic incident unfolded in Bihar’s Bhagalpur district, as three members of a family, including a one-year-old girl, were fatally shot by their own relatives on Tuesday afternoon, as reported by the local police. The gruesome crime took place at Navtolia village under Gopalpur police station around 4:30 pm.
The victims were identified as Chandan Kumar, 40, his wife Chandni Devi, 30, and their one-year-old daughter, Roshni Kumari. According to SP Sushant Kumar Saroj, the perpetrators are Chandni’s father and brother, who are currently on the run.
Chandni’s love marriage with Chandan in 2021 had caused tension within her family, leading to frequent quarrels with her father and brother. On the day of the attack, Chandni’s father assaulted the couple with an iron rod, resulting in multiple fractures for Chandan. Subsequently, Chandni’s brother arrived with a firearm and fatally shot the couple, and even the 1-year-old Roshni did not escape his wrath. All three victims lost their lives at the scene, resulting in the escape of the perpetrators from the village.
Authorities have launched a manhunt to apprehend the accused, and raids are currently in progress. The police believe that the tragic incident stemmed from the family’s disapproval of Chandni’s marriage. This horrific crime has left the community stunned and grieving, as they grapple with the loss of innocent lives. The local authorities are committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice and ensuring the safety and security of the community in the aftermath of this senseless tragedy.
