Explosions Kill 30 People in Balochistan Ahead of Pakistan’s General Elections

QUETTA, Pakistan – On the eve of Pakistan’s general elections, tragedy struck Balochistan province as two separate explosions took the lives of at least 30 individuals and left another 40 injured. The blasts occurred near election offices belonging to Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) and an independent candidate, sparking fear and chaos in the region.

Deputy Commissioner Yasir Bazai reported that the explosion outside the JUI office in Killa Saifullah resulted in 12 fatalities and 18 injuries, with four individuals in critical condition. The office, located 170 kilometers from Quetta, was crowded with workers at the time of the explosion. Meanwhile, a separate blast near the office of independent candidate Asfand Yar Kakar in the Pishin district claimed 18 lives and injured 23, according to Deputy Commissioner Pishin Jumma Dad Mandokhail.

Amidst increased tensions in the lead up to the elections, Pakistani authorities have noted a surge in violence, including targeted attacks on political candidates. The Islamic State Pakistan Province (ISPP) has claimed responsibility for the bombings in Balochistan, heightening concerns about the security of the electoral process.
