Explosion Investigation Underway After Gas Leak Destroys Atlanta BBQ Restaurant

Atlanta, Georgia – An investigation has been launched following an explosion caused by a gas leak in southwest Atlanta. The incident occurred at Po Freddie’s BBQ on Campbellton Road, leaving the restaurant completely destroyed. Po Freddie Jones, the restaurant owner, expressed devastation over the destruction, comparing it to his wartime experiences in Vietnam.

Jones, a retired veteran who has owned the establishment for nearly 50 years, lamented the loss of valuable items inside the restaurant, including signed pictures from icons like Muhammad Ali and Marvin Gaye. Despite the tragedy, Jones remains grateful for the support and prayers he has received from the community.

Fortunately, no one was inside the restaurant at the time of the explosion, and nearby businesses were evacuated as a precaution. The explosion was triggered by a ruptured gas line, caused by construction crews working in the area earlier that morning.

Babacar Fal, the owner of Tires and Things next door to Po Freddie’s BBQ, expressed relief that his business was spared from the explosion. However, the future of Jones’ restaurant remains uncertain as he contemplates the next steps.

Atlanta Gas Light has since completed repairs on the damaged gas line, but the cause of the fire is still being investigated. The incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers of gas leaks and the importance of following safety protocols in construction work to prevent similar accidents in the future.
