Explosion in Derry, New Hampshire Caused by Falling Tree: Victim Identified

Derry, New Hampshire – A tragic house explosion in Derry, New Hampshire, claimed the life of a 76-year-old woman, identified as Laura Percival. The explosion, which occurred at 141 Goodhue Road on Thursday morning, resulted in her death from blast injuries. The New Hampshire Medical Examiner’s Office ruled her death an accident.

According to officials from the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office, a child who was inside the home at the time of the explosion is currently hospitalized in a Boston-area hospital. Reports indicate that the child sustained injuries and is under medical care.

The incident was likely caused by a falling tree that landed on propane tanks at the rear of the home during a powerful nor’easter that hit New Hampshire on Thursday. The impact of the tree falling led to a leak in the propane tanks, triggering the explosion that destroyed the house.

An elderly woman was found deceased inside the residence following the explosion. The homeowner, who survived the incident, recounted how his 11-year-old daughter escaped with burns on her face. The family is now dealing with the aftermath of the tragic event while authorities continue their investigation.

As the investigation unfolds, officials urge any witnesses to come forward with information by contacting the Fire Marshal’s Office at 603-223-4289 or emailing fmo@dos.nh.gov.
