Explosion at Iron River, Michigan Home Kills One Person

Iron River, Michigan – A tragic explosion in Iron River, Michigan took the life of one person on Saturday night. Deputies from the Iron Mountain Sheriff’s Department and troopers from the Michigan State Police, Iron Mountain Post, were dispatched to 820 Cayuga St. after reports of the explosion at around 9:30 central time.

Upon arrival, officers found the residence mostly destroyed with debris scattered as far as three blocks away. Several fire departments responded to the scene and searched for potential victims, while state troopers from neighboring posts along with MSP K9 units and the 8th District MSP Fire Investigator were called in to assist.

An 80-year-old man who recently moved into the home from Florida was confirmed dead. Authorities do not suspect criminal activity at this time, and the fire remains under investigation. The Iron River City Police is leading this investigation with assistance from the MSP Fire Investigator.
