Cincinnati, Ohio – After an explosion ignited a fire in an East Price Hill home, the Cincinnati Fire Department revealed a concerning lack of smoke detectors in the residence. The incident, which led to four individuals being hospitalized, unfolded in the 700 block of Elberon Avenue on Sunday night. Upon receiving numerous calls reporting a possible explosion and fire at around 8:12 p.m., the department’s crews swiftly responded to the scene.
District Fire Chief Brett Dew disclosed that upon arrival, firefighters encountered a four-family home engulfed in heavy flames, with an exterior wall collapsing. Amidst the chaos, a victim was found lying in the front yard of the building. Due to the building’s compromised structure, fire crews immediately switched to defense operations and tended to the injured individuals, which included two children with minor injuries and one adult with serious injuries.
In addition to those hospitalized, Chief Dew mentioned that five residents have been displaced as a result of the fire. The severity of the damage inside the apartment building is substantial, estimated to cost around $300,000. Concerns regarding the building’s stability have also been raised, with fears of a potential collapse looming.
