Cruelty Uncovered: 146 Dogs Found Dead at Ohio Property as Woman Faces Multiple Charges

Portage County, Ohio – Last June, a tragic discovery was made on Barbara Wible’s property in Mantua, where authorities found 146 dogs deceased. The 69-year-old woman faced charges of animal cruelty in connection to the deaths of 160 dogs across Cuyahoga and Portage counties. However, recent news reveals that Wible has passed away.

Confirming this development, 3News’ Lynna Lai received information from the Portage County Sheriff’s Office. Portage County Prosecutor Victor Vigluicci stated that Wible’s criminal cases will be closed. Additionally, the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office plans to file a motion to dismiss due to Wible’s death.

The legal troubles for Wible began with an indictment last year related to the severe neglect of 36 dogs at her Parma residence. This neglect led to the unfortunate deaths of 14 dogs. The investigation initiated on June 2 when authorities responded to a welfare check in Parma, revealing appalling conditions with numerous dogs kept in cages without food or water.

Wible, who previously served as the president and co-founder of a dog rescue organization called Canine Lifeline, faced similar charges in Portage County. The discovery of 146 deceased dogs on her property shocked the community back in June. Amy Belcher, executive director of PAWS Ohio, expressed gratitude towards the prosecutors for holding Wible accountable for the inhumane treatment of the animals under her care.

In light of Wible’s passing, Belcher emphasized the importance of justice for the suffering endured by the dogs due to Wible’s actions. Despite the closure brought by Wible’s death to the legal proceedings, the memory of the tragic incident lingers in the minds of those affected by the heartbreaking loss of so many innocent lives.
