Crash at Karu Bridge Ends with Zero Fatalities, Three Injured in Multi-Vehicle Collision

Abuja, Nigeria — In a concerning incident at the Karu Bridge, a multiple vehicle collision resulted in injuries for three individuals but thankfully no fatalities. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) reported the crash, which involved six vehicles, occurred around 3 p.m. on a busy route in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

According to Olusegun Ogungbemide, the Corps Public Education Officer, a total of 35 people were involved in the accident, which he classified as serious. Among the victims, 30 were males and five were females. The three injured men were taken to nearby healthcare facilities, with reports indicating they suffered from head trauma, fractures, and various bruises.

The vehicles caught up in the crash included a Dangote truck, a Setraco company bus, a commercial Peugeot J5, a Toyota Camry, a Bajaj motorcycle, and a Peugeot 406. Ogungbemide emphasized that the accident was caused by a loss of control, exacerbated by inadequate road signage in a construction zone managed by a Chinese construction company.

In response to the incident, FRSC officials from the Nyanya and Karu units, along with local police, promptly coordinated rescue operations, cleared the debris from the road, and managed traffic flow. The debris included the recovered vehicles, which have since been handed over to the Karu Police Division for further examination.

The FRSC reiterated the critical importance of having proper road signage at construction sites to prevent future accidents, urging construction companies to prioritize safety measures. Ogungbemide’s remarks serve as a reminder of the ongoing challenges faced in ensuring road safety in heavily trafficked areas.

As authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, community leaders stress the need for enhanced traffic management and greater accountability among road construction firms. The hope remains that improved safety protocols will mitigate such incidents in the future.
