Chicago Weekend Shootings Leave 13 Injured, 2 Dead: Police

Chicago, Illinois – Over the weekend, Chicago experienced a wave of violence as at least 13 people were shot, with two losing their lives to gun violence. The city continues to grapple with the ongoing issue of shootings plaguing various neighborhoods.

One victim, a 55-year-old man, was fatally shot in the West Englewood neighborhood when an assailant fired from a passing vehicle, striking the victim in the body. Despite being rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center, the man succumbed to his injuries. At this time, no suspects have been apprehended in connection with the shooting.

In another incident, a 34-year-old man was shot while driving in the city’s South Loop. The victim, hit in the knee by gunfire from a passing silver sedan, managed to transport himself to a nearby hospital for treatment. Fortunately, he was reported to be in good condition following the shooting. Police are actively investigating the incident to locate the shooter.

On the same night, a 20-year-old man fell victim to a robbery and shooting in the Bronzeville neighborhood. After being approached by an armed individual demanding his belongings, the victim was shot twice in the knee. Despite sustaining gunshot wounds, he was reported to be in good condition after receiving medical care at the University of Chicago Hospital. Authorities are currently conducting an investigation into the incident.

Tragically, a 37-year-old man lost his life in a shooting late Friday in the University Village neighborhood. The man was fatally shot multiple times by a group of individuals as he stood near his vehicle. Emergency services rushed him to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The identity of the victim has not yet been disclosed by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

In Washington Park, three individuals were injured after a man opened fire inside a bar. Two men sustained gunshot wounds and were taken to the University of Chicago Hospital for treatment. One victim remains in critical condition, while a 48-year-old woman received minor injuries from broken glass and was transported to Stroger Hospital in stable condition. Police have identified the gunman but have yet to make an arrest in connection with the shooting.

These incidents add to the growing concern over gun violence in Chicago, with last weekend alone seeing at least 33 people shot, seven of whom tragically lost their lives. Authorities are working diligently to address the ongoing violence that continues to impact communities across the city.
