Capital Murder Charge Filed in Death of 19-Month-Old Toddler in Jefferson County

BESSEMER, Ala. – A 27-year-old man has been charged with capital murder in the death of a 19-month-old toddler in Jefferson County. Oscar Espinoza Guadarrama, the boyfriend of the toddler’s mother, has been held in the Jefferson County Jail in Bessemer since the death of Gabriel Adriel Alonso Romero on February 18.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the emergency room of UAB Medical Center West to investigate Romero’s death. The toddler had suffered multiple bodily injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Guadarrama is being held at the jail without bond. The case is under investigation and no further details have been released at this time.
