Brookings Police Investigate Two Unattended Deaths, Assure Public No Threat

BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Brookings Police Department has initiated investigations into two separate deaths this week, but they assure the public that there is no threat to their safety.

The first incident involved a 13-year-old experiencing a severe medical emergency on Tuesday evening. Despite attempts at life-saving measures by first responders, the juvenile was later pronounced deceased at the Brookings Emergency Department.

On the early hours of Wednesday, the police department responded to a report of an unresponsive female at a residence. Despite life-saving attempts at the scene, the female was later pronounced deceased at the Brookings Emergency Department.

Both unattended deaths are currently under investigation by the Brookings Police Department and the South Dakota Department of Criminal Investigation. The authorities have reiterated that there is no related threat to public safety in either case.

As the investigations continue, the police department has assured the public that additional details will be released as they become available.
