Police processed evidence after a fatal Monday night attack in the east Bronx.
NEW YORK — Police searched Tuesday for a gunman after a 46-year-old man was fatally shot Monday night along White Plains Road in Parkchester, a busy Bronx corridor with shops, apartments and steady transit traffic.
The shooting happened near Archer Street shortly before 8:15 p.m., according to police accounts. The victim was struck in the head and taken by EMS to Jacobi Hospital, where he died. No arrest had been reported as detectives continued the investigation.
The attack occurred outside a liquor store near 1503 White Plains Road. Video from a nearby business showed the victim with other people before a man in a long blue raincoat walked up and fired, according to local reports. Police have not said whether the victim and shooter knew each other.
White Plains Road is one of Parkchester’s main routes, connecting residential blocks, storefronts and bus lines. The shooting briefly turned the area into an active crime scene as officers placed evidence markers and blocked off part of the sidewalk.
Investigators are expected to use surveillance video from nearby businesses as they build a timeline. They also are seeking witness accounts from people who were near the liquor store and intersection when the gunfire broke out.
As of Tuesday, officials had not released a motive, a confirmed suspect name or details on charges. The case remains open, with the NYPD continuing to review evidence from the scene.
