Braxytn Smith’s family members held on $300,000 bail for homicide charges.

Bangor, Maine – Three family members, Joshua Smith, Jem Bean, and Mistie Latourette, are facing charges in connection to the homicide of 10-year-old Braxtyn Smith, with each held on $300,000 bail.

The boy was brought to St. Joseph Hospital on February 18, where he was later transferred to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center and ultimately succumbed to his injuries. Court documents reveal disturbing details of the abuse the child allegedly suffered, including severe underweight, bruises, and restraint with zip ties by family members.

During their arraignment, the accused appeared via Zoom in court, where they did not enter pleas. The judge imposed a no-communication order between them and their other child. The next court date for the defendants has not been scheduled yet.

Medical professionals noted extensive bruising on the child’s body, including his face, abdomen, and extremities, with no signs of accidental causes. The boy’s CT scan showed bleeding on his brain and skull, indicating severe trauma and malnourishment at just 48 pounds.

The trio, charged with depraved indifference murder, remained silent during the hearing, as the investigation into the tragic death of Braxtyn Smith continues with more details emerging from court documents. The community mourns the loss of the young boy while seeking justice for the heinous crime committed against him.
