Alley Self-Defense Shooting Leads to Arrest of Phoenix Man

Phoenix, Arizona – A tragic incident unfolded in a Phoenix alley as 22-year-old Andrew Anthony Ormsby allegedly shot and killed another man, 22-year-old Roy Orozco. Ormsby claims the shooting was an act of self-defense, citing an argument that escalated between the two men in an alley near 27th Avenue and Campbell on February 22.

According to court documents, the altercation began when Orozco challenged Ormsby’s ability to carry a gun, leading to a physical confrontation where Orozco allegedly attempted to take Ormsby’s jacket. Ormsby responded by pulling out his gun and fatally shooting Orozco, believing he was acting in self-defense to protect his firearm.

After the shooting, Ormsby fled the scene, leaving Orozco to succumb to his injuries. Thanks to surveillance footage from nearby businesses and residents, police were able to identify Ormsby and track him down to Glendale’s Bonsall Park, where he was known to frequent with the local homeless population, leading to his arrest at 59th Avenue and Bethany Home Road.

Following a police interrogation, Ormsby was charged with second-degree murder and illegal possession of a weapon due to a prior felony conviction in 2021 that had not restored his gun rights. The case underscores the tragic consequences of gun violence and the complexities of self-defense claims within the legal system.

As the investigation unfolds, authorities will continue to piece together the events leading up to the fatal shooting, seeking justice for the victim’s family while ensuring a fair trial for Ormsby. The community mourns the loss of Orozco and grapples with the aftermath of senseless violence on the streets of Phoenix.
