SLIDELL, La. — A 33-year-old man has been arrested following a brutal home invasion in Slidell that occurred early Tuesday morning, according to local law enforcement officials. Kenneth Lyons faces several serious charges, including attempted murder, stemming from an alleged attack on a woman in her residence.
Deputies responded to the incident around 4 a.m. in the 1200 block of Cousin Street after receiving a 911 call from a man who was in the house at the time. The caller told authorities that both he and the victim were asleep when Lyons, a Black male from Slidell, forcibly entered the home.
Investigators reported that the attack was vicious, with Lyons reportedly assaulting the woman and ultimately using a knife to inflict multiple stab wounds. In a panic, the man who had called 911 managed to flee the scene and seek help, which may have been crucial in alerting authorities quickly.
Emergency medical personnel transported the victim to a local hospital, where she received treatment for her injuries and has since been released. Fortunately, her recovery is underway, although the psychological impact of the incident remains to be seen.
Lyons was taken into custody shortly after deputies arrived. He was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center and now faces charges that include attempted murder, home invasion, and aggravated battery. Authorities noted that the aggravated battery charge is linked to a prior incident involving the same victim that had not previously been reported.
The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the case, working to gather more information and assess whether any additional charges should be filed. The disturbing nature of the attack has raised alarms within the community, prompting discussions about safety and crime prevention measures.
As the investigation unfolds, local residents are being urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.
