Chorley, Lancashire, a violent incident unfolded on May 31 last year, resulting in a man suffering severe injuries in his own home. The victim, along with his brother and two others, including a man named Baines, returned to the victim’s residence after an encounter at a local pub. Baines allegedly believed the victim had insulted someone earlier, a misconception that led to a tragic series of events.
Security footage revealed that in the early hours of the morning, two masked individuals arrived at the victim’s house, equipped with a metal pole. Shortly after, Baines emerged from the residence to meet them, one of the masked men carrying an imitation firearm. The group then proceeded to launch a vicious attack on the victim, who was sleeping on the sofa in his living room, resulting in significant injuries including two fractured eye sockets, a fractured rib, and a brain bleed.
Following the brutal assault, Lancashire Police conducted an investigation that led to the arrest of Baines and another individual, Jack Williams. Both perpetrators were apprehended at a hotel in Charnock Richard on June 23. Subsequently, they were sentenced at Preston Crown Court, where Detective Constable Ryan Lee emphasized the severity of the attack by stating, “This was a violent assault with a weapon on a man within the confines of his own home, resulting in serious harm.”
The harsh prison sentences imposed on Baines and Williams underscore the gravity with which the court viewed the attack.
