Port Talbot, Wales — A head teacher was sentenced to two years and four months in prison for violently attacking a colleague, a shocking incident that unfolded at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Comprehensive School. During a court hearing, Judge Paul Thomas characterized the attack as driven by intense sexual jealousy. Anthony Felton, 54, used an 18-inch wrench to strike 51-year-old Richard Pyke in the back of the head while Pyke was seated and vulnerable at his computer. Following the sudden blow, Pyke fell to the ground and tried to defend himself until another colleague intervened.
Prosecutors indicated that Felton’s jealousy stemmed from his recent discovery of fatherhood; he had learned he was the father of a child born to a female colleague with whom he had an inappropriate relationship. Adding to the turmoil, Felton suspected that Pyke was pursuing a romantic relationship with the same woman. “The evidence suggests that Mr. Felton was aware of the nature of these relationships and allowed jealousy to dictate his actions,” said prosecutor Ieuan Rees.

Thomas remarked, “The trigger for your act of extreme violence was of your own doing,” underlining the self-inflicted nature of Felton’s outburst.

He described feeling completely betrayed by someone he trusted deeply. “You maneuvered me into a position of utter vulnerability and then attacked me from behind,” he stated. Pyke conveyed the emotional turmoil he has endured since the assault, asserting that the trust he placed in Felton was completely shattered.
