Assault Victim Hospitalized After Homophobic Attack in West Hollywood

West Hollywood, California – A victim is recovering in the hospital after an unprovoked attack on a sidewalk in West Hollywood. The West Hollywood Sheriff’s Department is actively searching for the perpetrator, described as a six-foot-tall, 30-year-old white male.

The incident took place on March 17 when David Velasquez was riding a scooter home from the store after buying cough medicine. Velasquez suffered severe injuries and head trauma in the assault.

Recalling the terrifying ordeal, Velasquez stated, “I was lucky to have survived. My whole life was flashing before my eyes as he was pounding my head into the ground.” The attack occurred on the sidewalk near Santa Monica Boulevard and Hancock Avenue, where the suspect allegedly hurled homophobic slurs at Velasquez before physically assaulting him.

Despite bystanders recording the attack on their cell phones, no one intervened until a motorist finally stopped to help Velasquez. The victim is urging anyone with information about the crime to contact the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station at 310-855-8850.
