Assault on Lynn Convenience Store Clerk Leaves Community Shaken and Suspect Arrested

LYNN, Mass. — A man is in custody following a brutal assault on a convenience store clerk that took place on Halloween evening. The incident at the Richdale Convenience Store on Chatham Street has left the community in shock.

Lynn police received a call shortly after 7 p.m. reporting a disturbance at the store. Upon arriving, officers discovered the clerk had sustained serious injuries, and several items were reported stolen. Surveillance footage shows the suspect leaping over the check-out counter and launching a relentless attack on the clerk, who was reportedly not provoking the assault.

Local resident Mike Dion, who witnessed the aftermath, described the scene as shocking and distressing. “I saw him punch and punch; the guy couldn’t even get off the floor,” Dion recounted.

Joshua Mora, 22, of Lynn, was taken into custody on Friday in connection with the incident. According to the store owner, Mora initially entered the store to buy chips but later returned to attempt to purchase tobacco. When the clerk requested identification, Mora allegedly became aggressive, knocking over merchandise before violently attacking the employee.

“This is just awful,” said Dion, expressing his disbelief at the sudden escalation of the situation. The clerk has been reported to have suffered a broken leg, a broken nose, and a broken jaw due to the attack.

Mora faces multiple charges, including armed robbery, three counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and malicious destruction of property valued under $1,200. He is also charged with armed assault and battery resulting in bodily injury, highlighting the severity of the incident.

Community members have expressed their concern over safety in local establishments, with Dion urging for mutual respect among residents. “We’re all trying to make ends meet,” he said, emphasizing the need for compassion in everyday interactions.

Mora is scheduled to appear in Lynn District Court for arraignment. As investigations continue, the community grapples with the implications of such violence on its public spaces.
