Assailant Jailed for Violent Attack, Abusive Remarks, and Obstructing Paramedics

DUMBARTON, SCOTLAND – A 24-year-old man, Scott McCallion, appeared in court and was sentenced to 12 months in jail for a violent assault on another man at Alexandria rail station. McCallion pleaded guilty to attacking the victim, causing severe injury, permanent disfigurement, and permanent impairment. The assault was further aggravated by prejudice related to sexual orientation. He also obstructed paramedics and made threatening and abusive remarks, as well as assaulting a police officer.

According to the court, McCallion was on two bail orders at the time of the incident. The fiscal depute Megan Dow told the court that McCallion arrived at the rail station early in the morning and proceeded to attack the victim, dragging him to the ground and inflicting severe injuries. A witness from a nearby store called the police after seeing the victim covered in blood.

During the assault, McCallion repeatedly kicked the man in the face, resulting in a broken jaw and other injuries. Despite sustaining a head injury himself, McCallion continued to be abusive towards paramedics and hospital staff.

McCallion’s defense solicitor acknowledged his client’s previous custodial sentences and mentioned his time served in the army for four years. The lawyer stated that McCallion had positive support from friends and family. However, the sheriff presiding over the case condemned McCallion’s behavior, emphasizing the seriousness of the assault and the subsequent abusive behavior towards authorities.

In sentencing McCallion to 12 months in jail, the sheriff highlighted the severity of the assault and the appalling behavior towards the victim and responding authorities. The sentence is set to start at the end of his current custodial sentences.
