Arrested Broward County Man Linked to Deaths of Trooper and Truck Driver Had Extensive Criminal History with Probation Violations

FORT PIERCE, Fla. – A Broward County man is in custody without bond in Fort Pierce after being arrested in connection with the deaths of a state trooper and a truck driver. Michael Addison, 30, led Florida Highway Patrol Trooper James Zachary Fink on a chase that resulted in a fatal crash on Interstate 95. According to officials, Addison was wanted on two warrants related to aggravated battery and weapons charges in Broward County.

Court records show a history of legal troubles for Addison, including the revocation of his probation in May 2022 for an incident in which he choked his ex-girlfriend. In 2020, he was on probation for five years after being involved in a plea deal related to fraudulent activity with a fake ID. In addition, Addison faced charges of theft and battery, with previous arrests for burglary and grand theft in 2012.

The arrest report has not been released by the Florida Highway Patrol or the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office, and officials have not publicly disclosed Addison’s motive for fleeing from Trooper Fink. The State Attorney’s Office for Broward County has yet to issue a statement on the matter.

In addition to his legal troubles, court records show that Addison was evicted from an apartment in Broward County and owes thousands of dollars in fines and unpaid rent. Despite multiple arrests and probation terms, he continued to have run-ins with the law, including various traffic citations.

The arrest of Addison in connection with the deaths of the state trooper and truck driver has left the community grappling with the tragic events that unfolded on Interstate 95. As the investigation continues, the full extent of Addison’s criminal history and the events leading up to the fatal crash are still being uncovered.
