Gombe, Nigeria — The Gombe State Police have apprehended 25 individuals believed to be involved in an attack on the Divisional Police Officer of Kwadon, CSP Adamu Alhaji-Idi, highlighting mounting concerns around police safety in the region.
The incident occurred on Tuesday when CSP Alhaji-Idi was reportedly assaulted by a group known locally as Kalare during routine police duties in Kwadon town. The attack left the officer with significant injuries, including a serious wound to his forehead, prompting medical attention at the Federal Teaching Hospital in Gombe.
Speaking on the matter, Police Public Relations Officer DSP Buhari Abdullahi condemned the violence and reassured the public of the police’s commitment to upholding safety and justice. He indicated that a distress call was received early in the morning from the Deputy Commissioner of Police about the incident, which triggered a rapid response from a dedicated patrol unit.
Led by CSP Ali Madaki, officers from Operation Hattara were promptly dispatched to the scene. As a result of coordinated efforts, the police arrested 25 residents of Kwadon believed to be linked to the attack. They are currently in police custody, undergoing detailed investigations, and will be charged upon completion of the inquiry.
Following the incident, Commissioner of Police Bello Yahaya, along with the Deputy Commissioner of Operations, visited Kwadon to evaluate the situation firsthand and provide support to the officers on the ground. Their visit aimed to reassure local law enforcement and residents of the police’s dedication to combating crime in the area.
Abdullahi reiterated a strong stance against violence directed at police personnel, asserting that the command will take decisive action against anyone who threatens public order or the safety of officers. He called on community members in Kwadon and throughout Gombe State to remain compliant with the law and assist in the ongoing investigation.
“This is a pivotal moment. The climate of impunity for attacking security personnel must come to an end,” Abdullahi stated, emphasizing that the police would ensure accountability and work diligently to restore peace in the community.
The escalating violence against law enforcement underscores the need for concerted efforts to improve security in Gombe State. As the police intensify their operations, the agency is urging community cooperation to foster a safer environment for all residents.
