Arrest Made in Violent Attack on Woman in Reno County

Hutchinson, Kansas – Law enforcement authorities are currently investigating a disturbing incident involving a violent attack on a woman that led to the arrest of a suspect. The incident took place in the 1300 block of North Arthur in Hutchinson, where police responded to a stabbing just before 5 p.m. on Friday, according to a media release.

Upon arriving at the scene, first responders found a woman with life-threatening injuries. The victim was promptly transported to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center and later transferred to a Wichita hospital, where she remains in serious but stable condition. Following the investigation, a suspect was identified and taken into custody at around 3:00 a.m. on Saturday.

The arrested individual has been identified as Joseph D. Castorena, a 41-year-old resident of Hutchinson. Castorena is facing charges of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Sexual Battery, and Parole Violation. Records from the Kansas Department of Corrections reveal that Castorena has prior convictions for robbery, counterfeiting, aggravated battery, aiding a felon, criminal possession of a firearm, and drug-related offenses.
