Amazon Worker Shot Dead Inside Employee-Only Parking Garage

The fatal shooting happened Thursday morning at a Melrose Park delivery station.

MELROSE PARK, Ill. — Police searched for a gunman after an Amazon employee was fatally shot Thursday inside a restricted parking garage at the company’s Melrose Park facility, authorities said.

Travion R. Taylor, 27, of Chicago, was found wounded after officers responded shortly after 9:10 a.m. to the Amazon site in the 1800 block of North Fifth Avenue. Officials said the garage was limited to employees, and a security guard was trying to help Taylor when police arrived.

Taylor was rushed to Loyola University Medical Center in nearby Maywood, where he later died. The Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed his identity. Officials said the shooting was tied to a personal dispute and appeared to involve only two people.

Police said the suspect left the scene after the shooting. Investigators found two shell casings in the garage, but authorities did not release details about the weapon, the suspect’s route from the property or any possible vehicle used to leave.

Amazon said the building had been cleared as safe after the shooting. Company spokesperson Lex Evans said the company’s focus was on supporting Taylor’s relatives, friends and the Melrose Park team. Evans said Amazon had added security and was cooperating with police.

The shooting disrupted a workplace that local officials described as secure from public access. Police said there was no ongoing public threat, but key details remained unknown, including what started the fight and whether the suspect was also connected to the facility.

The investigation remained in the hands of Melrose Park police. As of the first public reports, no charges had been announced and no suspect had been publicly identified.
