Albany man sentenced to 25 years for violent assault and attempted murder charges

An Albany man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for violent assault and attempted murder charges, marking the conclusion of a harrowing legal battle. Raheem Hines, 46, was handed the sentence by both Hon. Roger McDonough in Albany County Supreme Court and Hon. Andra Ackerman in Albany County Court on Friday.

Hines was indicted on multiple charges, including assault in the first degree and attempted murder in the second degree, after a violent incident in November 2022. The indictment stated that Hines had slashed a woman’s face in August 2021, causing serious physical injury, and was also involved in a shooting in May 2022.

The victim of the shooting described the impact of the crime on their life, highlighting the severity of the incident and the challenges they faced during recovery. Jessica Blain-Lewis, the Homicide and Violent Crimes Bureau Chief, condemned the act as senseless and cowardly, emphasizing the negative impact such violence has on the community.

The judges presiding over the case echoed these sentiments, expressing their dismay over the prevalence of such crimes in the city. The prosecution successfully secured a guilty plea from Hines for the charges, paving the way for the lengthy prison sentence.

Hines’ sentencing serves as a warning against violent crime, emphasizing the consequences perpetrators face. The legal battle, spanning several indictments and guilty pleas, showcases the dedication of law enforcement to hold individuals accountable for their actions. Ultimately, this case highlights the commitment to justice and safety within the community.
