WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — A man faces multiple charges, including child abuse, after a domestic dispute escalated into a violent attack on a female victim, according to local authorities.
Claudy Mendes, 28, has been charged with false imprisonment, aggravated child abuse, domestic battery by strangulation, tampering with a witness or victim, and robbery without a weapon following a disturbing incident on May 1. The West Palm Beach Police Department reported that the altercation began over disagreements related to household responsibilities.
The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, informed police that Mendes struck her repeatedly in the face, choked her, and issued threats to her life. During the confrontation, Mendes released his French Bulldog, directing the animal to attack her, compounding the chaos and violence of the situation. The affidavit details that Mendes not only struck and choked the victim but also bit her, while the dog joined the assault.
In an attempt to escape, the victim reportedly tried to flee through a window and sought assistance from nearby residents. Officers arriving at the scene found her in a distressed state, crying and bleeding. Descriptions of her injuries included swollen lips, red eyes, bite marks, and cuts to her skin.
The victim described a harrowing encounter, stating that Mendes’s threats and physical aggression left her in fear for her life. Mendes, however, disputes the accusations, claiming the victim behaved erratically throughout the incident.
Mendes is currently scheduled to appear in court. Authorities have stated that the victim will have the opportunity to receive notifications regarding his potential release.
