WEST CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. (AP) — Today, marks the 53rd anniversary of a devastating gas explosion that rocked West Conshohocken on January 27, 1971. The explosion along Front Street resulted in a tragic fire that claimed the lives of four people, leaving the community reeling from the aftermath. In 2018, a multi-part series delved into the impact of the explosion on the community, shedding light on the tragedy and its long-lasting effects.
Recently, additional photos have surfaced showcasing the aftermath of the fire. The images reveal the extent of the destruction, with 15 homes destroyed by the explosion and fire. Among the photographs are snapshots of William and Mildred Duff, whose home was destroyed. They were pictured being shown temporary mobile homes brought in to serve as temporary housing for the victims. These rare and insightful images offer a glimpse into the immediate aftermath of the tragedy.
