Police said the case remained active after officers responded Saturday afternoon.
NORFOLK, Va. — A 19-year-old woman was killed Saturday afternoon in a shooting on Arcadia Street in Norfolk, where police blocked off part of the neighborhood and began a homicide investigation.
Norfolk police said officers responded to the area near Arcadia Street after reports of gunfire on June 27. The woman was found shot and later died from her injuries. Authorities had not announced an arrest or released a suspect’s name by Monday.
The shooting drew police, crime scene tape and forensic investigators to the area near Scott Street and Virginia Beach Boulevard. Officers searched the scene for evidence and spoke with people nearby as the investigation continued. Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney Ramin Fatehi said police had “good leads” in the case, but officials did not release more details about what those leads showed.
Investigators had not publicly identified the woman by Monday afternoon. Police also had not said whether the shooting happened inside a home, outside on the street or near a vehicle. The circumstances that led to the gunfire remained unclear, including whether the woman was targeted or caught in crossfire.
The case adds another fatal shooting to Norfolk’s summer violence investigations. Police said the department’s homicide detectives were handling the case and reviewing information gathered at the scene. Officials have not said whether any weapon was recovered, whether surveillance video was found or whether more people were hurt.
Police are expected to release more information if detectives identify a suspect, make an arrest or notify the victim’s family before releasing her name. As of Monday, the case remained open, and no court hearing had been scheduled.
