ELBA, WI – In a devastating head-on collision, a 22-year-old woman from Beaver Dam lost her life after mistakenly driving the wrong way on U.S. Highway 151. The accident unfolded near state Highway 73, just west of Columbus, when her vehicle collided with another car traveling in the correct direction.
The Dodge County Sheriff’s Department identified the woman’s car as a 2005 Toyota RAV4. The incident, which occurred shortly after 11 p.m. on April 18, resulted in the RAV4 overturning several times following its collision with a 2019 Toyota Corolla.
Tragically, the woman succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Her passengers, two 17-year-old girls, were critically injured and rushed to hospitals in Columbus and Madison. The other car’s driver sustained only minor injuries.
As the investigation into the crash proceeds, authorities have yet to determine what led to the wrong-way driving. They continue to gather evidence and testimonies to clarify the circumstances surrounding the accident.
The accident caused significant traffic disruptions, leading to delays of up to two hours on U.S. Highway 151. The congestion affected nearby highways and interstates, with normal traffic flow resuming around 2:30 a.m. on April 19.
