Woman in Her 70s Strangled During Hollywood Hills Home Invasion

The victim, a woman in her 70s, survived after being strangled inside the home.

LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles police searched Friday for masked suspects accused of strangling and robbing a woman in her 70s during a home invasion on Lookout Mountain Avenue in the Hollywood Hills.

The attack was reported Thursday night in the 8500 block of Lookout Mountain Avenue. Police said several suspects entered the home, demanded money and jewelry, attacked the woman and left before officers arrived. The woman was taken to a hospital and survived.

Investigators said the suspects wore masks and black hoodies and fled in a white Honda Accord. The robbery happened near Wonderland Elementary School, in a hillside area with winding roads and limited traffic. Officers searched the neighborhood after the call, but no arrests were reported by Friday morning.

LAPD officials said the woman was strangled during the robbery. Authorities did not release her name. Police also did not say whether anyone else was inside the home at the time. Detectives were still working to confirm how the suspects entered the property and how long they remained inside.

The stolen property included jewelry and cash, police said. CBS Los Angeles reported the loss at about $20,000. Investigators had not publicly confirmed a final amount. LAPD Officer Rosario Cervantes said the suspects were gone when officers reached the scene.

The case was assigned to robbery-homicide detectives, who handle some of the city’s most serious violent crimes. Their work was expected to include checking cameras, speaking with neighbors and reviewing whether the suspects or vehicle match any other recent crimes in the region.

The attack added to concern over residential burglaries and robberies across parts of Los Angeles. Officials have recently increased patrols in some neighborhoods after residents and business owners raised alarms about property crime. Police have not announced any connection between the Hollywood Hills case and other reported break-ins.

By Friday, the woman was recovering and the suspects remained outstanding. Police had not released booking information, suspect names or a date for any further briefing.
