Woman Found Shot Dead Inside Fairfax County Home

Detectives were interviewing the man Monday as they investigated his wife’s death inside their Washington Brice Road home.

FAIR OAKS, Va. — Fairfax County police detained a man after his wife was found fatally shot inside a Fair Oaks residence late Sunday, but authorities had not announced charges by early Monday.

Officers were sent to the home in the 12000 block of Washington Brice Road after a 911 call at about 10:30 p.m. Police found the woman inside with apparent gunshot wounds, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputy Chief Brendan Hooke said investigators believed the husband and wife were the only people in the residence at the time. Detectives detained the husband and began interviewing him as part of the homicide investigation.

Police described the shooting as domestic-related but did not provide further details about the circumstances. Authorities have not released the couple’s names or said what led officers to identify the husband as the person being detained.

Being detained does not by itself mean a person has been charged with a crime. Police had not publicly announced an arrest, a criminal charge or a finding about who fired the fatal shots as of Monday morning.

Investigators said there were no outstanding suspects and no continuing danger to the community. All people believed to be connected to the incident had been accounted for, according to police.

Several questions remained unresolved, including who placed the emergency call, whether investigators recovered a weapon and whether officers had received earlier calls involving the home. Police did not disclose those details in their initial updates.

Detectives continued gathering evidence Monday and working to determine what happened inside the residence. Police said the investigation remained active.
