Woman Fatally Shot After Robbery Call At Miramar Apartment

Officers found a woman wounded after responding to an apartment on North Preserve Way.

MIRAMAR, Fla. — Miramar police are investigating after a woman was fatally shot Friday morning at an apartment complex where officers first responded to a report of a robbery, authorities said.

Officers were called shortly after 2 a.m. to 10750 North Preserve Way. When they arrived, they found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound. She was rushed to a hospital and later died, police said. Her identity was not immediately released.

Police said a man who lived in the apartment was with the woman when officers arrived and was cooperating with detectives. Miramar Police spokesperson Janice McIntosh said the two knew each other and investigators were still working to determine what happened before the gunfire.

Officials said the man is believed to have shot the woman. Police did not immediately say whether he had been arrested, whether charges were pending or how the reported robbery fit into the case. Detectives stayed at the scene as the investigation continued.

Video from the complex showed a large law enforcement presence, with police tape blocking part of the property. A neighbor said the shooting was unsettling for residents in the gated community. “It’s a big concern, you know, it’s serious,” the neighbor said.

Police said there was no danger to the public. Investigators were expected to continue gathering statements and evidence before releasing additional details, including the woman’s name and any charging decision.
