New Orleans, Louisiana – A woman in Orleans Parish is facing charges for allegedly killing her boyfriend to profit from his $1 million life insurance policy. The incident came to light during a preliminary hearing where Detective Michael Haynes presented evidence against the accused, 37-year-old Kyana Traylor.
Haynes obtained a warrant for Traylor’s arrest back in February after the body of 32-year-old Robert Singleton was discovered in his motorhome on Jourdan Avenue. Police received a call from a concerned neighbor reporting a possible altercation between Singleton and his girlfriend, later identified as Traylor.
Initially treated as an unclassified death, further investigation revealed gunshot wounds on Singleton’s body, leading to Traylor’s arrest on charges of second-degree murder. Detectives found incriminating evidence linking Traylor to the crime scene, including personal belongings in a purse found on the property and a vehicle registered in her name.
During the investigation, police uncovered footage from a crime camera capturing Traylor’s movements from Bunker Hill Boulevard to the motorhome where Singleton was found deceased. Additional surveillance footage showed Traylor entering and leaving the property shortly before Singleton’s body was discovered.
In a disturbing turn of events, Singleton’s life insurance company contacted authorities, revealing Traylor’s role as the beneficiary in a substantial life insurance policy on the victim. The insurance company disclosed that Traylor had specifically requested that information be withheld from law enforcement.
Traylor’s bail was set at $500,000 by Commissioner Jonathan Friedman following the hearing, highlighting the severity of the allegations against her. The case underscores the tragic consequences of greed and betrayal within personal relationships, shedding light on the lengths some individuals may go to for financial gain.
