Kristin Sculley is accused of killing Robert Carragher III with a pocketknife inside his home.
MASSAPEQUA, N.Y. — A Long Island woman accused of stabbing a man inside his family’s home was held without bail after prosecutors charged her in the death of 28-year-old Robert Carragher III.
The case began early Monday on Beaumont Avenue in Massapequa, where Nassau County police said officers were called for an injured person shortly after 1:30 a.m. Carragher was found with a neck wound and died inside the home before he could be taken to a hospital.
Authorities said Carragher and 22-year-old Kristin Sculley had known each other and were together at the home before the stabbing. Police said the attack happened during an overnight meeting that turned violent. Carragher’s parents were home at the time and rushed to help after he came to them injured.
Detectives said Sculley was found inside the house after the stabbing and that police recovered a pocketknife. Officials said the weapon is believed to be tied to the attack. Police have not said what they believe caused the violence, and investigators have not released a detailed timeline of the minutes before Carragher was stabbed.
Sculley pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder. A judge ordered her held without bail as the case moves through Nassau County court. Prosecutors are expected to present evidence from the scene, witness statements and police interviews as the case advances.
The death shook the residential neighborhood, where neighbors said the police response was unlike anything they had seen on the block. Friends and relatives identified Carragher by his nickname, Bobby, and described the loss as sudden and devastating.
Nassau County police said the investigation is continuing. The next court date will set the pace for evidence review and any further motions in the murder case.
