Weekend Shootings Spur Multiple Police Investigations in Savannah and Chatham County

SAVANNAH, Georgia – A series of shootings over the weekend in Savannah and Chatham County has prompted numerous police inquiries. On February 10, the Chatham County Police Department (CCPD) responded to the area of Brassler Street and King George Boulevard after reports of a deceased adult male with gunshot wounds. The man was later identified as Donta’Veous Sharrod Cockfield Marshall, 29, and his death was ruled a homicide by the Chatham County Coroner’s Office.

Later the same day, the Savannah Police Department (SPD) were called to the 1000 block of West 39th Street, where a male juvenile was found with life-threatening injuries from gunshot wounds. The victim was treated on the scene and transported to a medical center. In a separate incident at 10:10 p.m., another shooting occurred at Barnard Street and Bay Lane, where a victim suffered life-threatening gunshot wounds and later died at the hospital. This marked the third shooting of the day.

The fourth shooting unfolded at 11:10 p.m. when SPD officers arrived at the 1500 block of Stratford Street and discovered an adult male with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. According to the victim, he was shot at from a moving vehicle. At 1:40 a.m. on February 11, SPD responded to the 1400 block of Walter Simmons Court, finding another adult male with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, also resulting from shots fired from a moving vehicle.

The American city of Savannah has seen an increase in gun-related crimes in recent years. According to police data, there have been two homicides in unincorporated Chatham County since the beginning of the year, a significant rise compared to zero at the same time last year. In the city of Savannah, there have also been two homicides reported since the start of the year.

The surge in gun violence in Savannah and Chatham County has raised concerns among residents and local authorities. As investigations into each shooting continue, the police are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
