Vigil Unites Liberty City Community to Remember Beloved Student Hailey Blake and Her Father Amid Ongoing Grief

Liberty City, Texas — Community members gathered in a somber display of support and remembrance during a candlelight vigil for 16-year-old Hailey Blake. The event took place at Hugh Camp Memorial Park, the site where both Hailey and her father, Shawn Blake, tragically lost their lives on Labor Day.

Organized by the Sabine High School Student Council, the vigil aimed to unite classmates and residents in honoring Hailey’s memory. Those who attended shared heartfelt tributes, prayers, and a collective sense of mourning for the loss that has deeply affected the community.

Emily Cirilo, a Spanish teacher at Sabine High School and a longtime family friend, recalled the warmth Hailey brought into her classroom. “There’s always one student who makes you feel at ease while teaching, and for me, that was Hailey,” Cirilo reflected. She emphasized how Hailey’s vibrant personality and joyful spirit left a lasting impression on everyone around her.

The loss of Hailey has reverberated throughout Sabine High School. Students returned to classes the day after Labor Day only to find empty seats where Hailey once sat, creating an undeniable void. Geometry teacher Hunter Barr expressed the profound impact of her absence. “The first day back, especially, felt like an emptiness that couldn’t be replaced,” he said.

Barr described Hailey as a determined student who was navigating personal challenges while striving for academic success. He recounted a conversation where she expressed her hopes for graduation: “She kept saying, ‘I just want to make it to graduation, and then I can really do something.’ I believed wholeheartedly that she would achieve it.”

At the park, two wooden crosses now stand as symbols of remembrance for both Hailey and her father. This physical tribute serves as a poignant reminder of their lives and the love that remains within the community despite their untimely passing.

The vigil not only honored Hailey, but also highlighted the resilience of Liberty City as it confronts this tragedy together. As friends, family, and strangers unite in shared sorrow, they continue to celebrate the light that Hailey brought into their lives, a legacy that will endure beyond her years.
