This match marked the highest number of goals conceded by Illinois in a single game this season.
The game, played under rainy conditions on a slick field, saw both teams score during the first half, which centered around set-piece opportunities. The Spartans struck first at the 13-minute mark when Maggie Illig converted a corner kick into a goal. Illinois equalized in the 25th minute with a beautiful free kick from Sarah Foley, bending the ball into the upper left corner.
