Vehicle Sought in Murder of 88-Year-Old Air Force Veteran in West Philadelphia

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – Authorities in Philadelphia have released new footage of a vehicle linked to the brutal murder of an 88-year-old Air Force veteran in West Philadelphia. Richard Butler tragically lost his life in a senseless shooting while seated in his car on North Dewey Street on March 5.

The newly released video showcases a silver 2018-2019 Nissan Altima with dark-tinted windows, displaying distinctive dents on the front right panel and a Pennsylvania license plate. Another video captured earlier this month captures the suspect exiting the Nissan just before the fatal shooting of Butler, who was struck twice in the chest. The perpetrator was seen wearing a light-colored hoodie, black long shorts, and black tights.

Emphasizing the devastating loss, Butler’s family remembers him as the heart and soul of any gathering, adored by all who crossed paths with him. Described as a ‘defenseless’ victim, Butler met his tragic fate in broad daylight while following his regular routine of visiting the park and stopping by Wawa. His niece Minette Finn reminisced on the impact he had on the community, stating, “If you met him, you loved him. That’s all I’m going to say. Anyone in this neighborhood could tell you.”

Butler had just dropped off his girlfriend moments before the shooting, with plans for a simple dinner later that evening. The community has been left shaken by the loss of this beloved figure, prompting a $20,000 reward for any information leading to the apprehension of the culprit. Authorities urge anyone with knowledge of the incident to reach out to the Philadelphia police at 215-686-TIPS (8477).
