UTRGV Baseball Team Dominates URI Rams 15-1 for Series Victory

Edinburg, Texas – The UTRGV Vaqueros baseball team secured a 15-1 victory over the Rhode Island Rams on Monday at UTRGV Baseball Stadium in Edinburg, earning a 2-1 series win.

In an impressive performance, senior Zach Tjelmeland pitched a career-high 4.2 innings, striking out seven while allowing only one run and four singles. The bullpen also shone, with senior Edinburg Vela alum Nico Rodriguez striking out the side and retiring all six batters he faced, while junior Mason Kosowick and junior Anthony Tejada contributed to the strong pitching performance.

Offensively, junior Steven Lancia led the Vaqueros by going 5-for-5 with two doubles, three RBIs, and two runs scored. The team’s graduate student CJ Valdez also had a standout game, going 2-for-3 with a home run, six RBIs, and two runs scored. The Vaqueros’ strong offense allowed them to dominate the Rams throughout the game.
