University District Shooting: Man Killed in Columbus Double Shooting Identified by Police

Columbus, Ohio – A tragic incident unfolded in the University District near the state fairgrounds when Harry T. Harper Jr., 54, lost his life following a double shooting on Saturday evening. The Columbus Division of Police announced the unfortunate passing of Harper after he and another individual were found with gunshot wounds, sparking an investigation into the incident.

Authorities responded to reports of the shooting around 8:38 p.m. on Saturday in the 400 block of East 13th Avenue. At the scene, officers discovered a man who had been shot and located Harper nearby on the 400 block of East 14th Avenue. Both individuals were rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition, with Harper ultimately succumbing to his injuries.

A search warrant for Harper’s vehicle revealed that detectives believe he was shot in an apartment on East 13th Avenue before attempting to drive away in his 2020 Toyota Tacoma. He made it to a residence on East 14th Avenue before collapsing on the back deck of the house. Investigators retrieved a handgun with blood on it from the vehicle and noted the presence of two gun safes inside.
