UCCS Student Facing First-Degree Murder Charges in Dorm Room Shooting Tragedy

Colorado Springs, Colorado – A University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) student was arrested on suspicion of murdering two individuals in a dorm room on campus, as detailed in arrest papers released on Friday.

Nicholas Jordan, the suspect, made an appearance before a judge and faces two counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of Samuel Knopp, 24, and Celie Rain Montgomery, 26. His bond remains at $5 million following the court appearance.

According to publicly posted arrest papers, UCCS Police received a call at approximately 6 a.m. on February 16 from a witness reporting a shooting in a dorm pod on the UCCS campus. The officers found Knopp and Montgomery deceased. The witness recounted ongoing disputes and complaints about Jordan’s behavior, including smoking marijuana and cigarettes, as well as the cleanliness of his living space.

Additional details from the arrest papers revealed that the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) joined the investigation to secure the scene. Investigators noted no signs of forced entry into the pod where the shooting took place. It was confirmed that Jordan had electronic access to the pod and had entered the building just before 4 a.m. on the day of the incident.

Furthermore, surveillance footage showed an individual in dark clothing entering the building, with a vehicle linked to Jordan spotted in Colorado Springs that morning. Witnesses disclosed previous instances of Jordan being reported for unsafe living conditions and smoking in the room, with an altercation between Knopp and Jordan in January over a bag of trash documented.

During court proceedings, it was revealed that Jordan had a fully loaded AK-47 in his vehicle when he was arrested by police. His next court appearance is scheduled for March 27.

The arrest papers did not provide details on Montgomery’s relationship with either the victim or the suspect, leaving questions regarding her involvement in the case unanswered.
