Tyler, Texas – A Tyler man accused of beating a woman to death in 2023 had a trial date set by a Smith County judge on Thursday.
18-year-old Deja Shanece Hood’s body was discovered behind an apartment building in September of that year, leading to the arrest of Jamaurea Britton. Police allege that Britton beat Hood to death in a “fit of rage” after she playfully pulled at his ear while assisting him with moving.
During a status hearing on Thursday, District Judge Austin Reeve Jackson scheduled Britton’s trial for October 5, 2026, with a pre-trial date set for September 25 of the following year.
