The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remains active.

LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. — A shooting late Wednesday in Lehigh Acres left two people wounded and drew a heavy deputy presence to 21st Street Southwest, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

The agency said deputies were called to the 4500 block of 21st Street Southwest around 10:30 p.m. after reports of a shooting. When they arrived, deputies found two people who had been shot during the incident.

Both victims were taken to a local hospital for treatment. The sheriff’s office said their injuries were not life-threatening. Officials had not said whether the victims lived at the scene, were visiting the area or were connected to each other.

The response centered on a residential stretch of Lehigh Acres, where patrol units lined the street Wednesday night. The sheriff’s office later confirmed that its Violent Crimes Unit was investigating the shooting.

Investigators had not announced charges or named a suspect by Thursday. The case remains active, and the sheriff’s office said additional information would be released when it becomes available.
