Two Killed, One Hurt in Lengthy Olmsted Falls SWAT Standoff

Authorities said a woman escaped the home before police found the suspect dead inside.

OLMSTED FALLS, Ohio — An evening shooting at a Bagley Road home left two people dead and one woman hospitalized Wednesday after police said a domestic dispute turned into a SWAT standoff that lasted for hours.

The violence was reported shortly before 6 p.m. near Brentwood Drive and Bagley Road. Olmsted Falls police said the people involved were an ex-boyfriend, his mother and his ex-girlfriend. The ex-girlfriend, who owned the home, escaped to a nearby house after she was injured, police said.

Officers responding to 26750 Bagley Road found the suspect’s mother critically wounded outside the residence. Police said officers tried life-saving measures while also dealing with an armed man inside the house. The woman was taken to Southwest General Hospital and later died. The homeowner was taken for medical care with injuries police described as not life-threatening.

Police said the suspect barricaded himself inside and would not communicate with officers. The Southwest Enforcement Bureau SWAT team and other emergency agencies were called to the scene. After repeated attempts to reach the man failed, officers entered the home and found him dead in the basement. Investigators believe he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

City officials said officers did not fire their weapons. The names of the suspect and victims had not been released Thursday morning. Police also had not released details on the relationship history, the weapon used or what happened inside the home before the first call to dispatchers.

The response drew investigators from the Olmsted Falls Police Department, the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner. Their work was expected to include processing the scene, confirming identities, reviewing the sequence of events and determining official causes of death.

Bagley Road was closed during the standoff and reopened before 6 a.m. Thursday. The scene had shifted from emergency response to investigation by morning, with police still seeking a fuller account of how the shooting began and how the people inside the home were connected.
