San Diego police said a man, woman and juvenile were found dead Wednesday and described the case as an isolated incident.
SAN DIEGO — Homicide detectives are investigating after two adults and a juvenile were found dead Wednesday morning inside a home in the Lake Murray area, where police said there was no evidence of forced entry and no apparent danger to the wider community.
San Diego police responded to the 6800 block of Boulder Lake Avenue shortly after 8:15 a.m. Sept. 16. The department’s public dispatch system recorded a report of a death in the Lake Murray neighborhood at about 8:18 a.m. Officers later confirmed that three people were dead inside the residence.
Police identified the victims only as a woman, a man and a juvenile as of Wednesday afternoon. Their names and ages had not been publicly released. Police told local news organizations that the adults were believed to be the child’s parents, but authorities had not released further details about the family or formally identified the victims.
The three had gunshot wounds, according to police information provided to local news outlets. A person who reported the incident told authorities that gunshots had been heard at about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, more than 10 hours before officers were called to the home Wednesday morning.
San Diego police homicide Lt. Christopher Leahy said investigators had found no evidence that someone forced their way into the residence. Police described what happened as an isolated incident and said there was no immediate danger to people living nearby.
Authorities also said they were not searching the neighborhood for an outstanding suspect Wednesday. No arrests had been announced, and police had not released a possible motive or explained the circumstances leading to the deaths. Investigators had not publicly classified the individual deaths or said who fired the gunshots.
The San Diego Police Department’s Homicide Unit took over the investigation, a standard step when deaths are suspected of involving criminal or otherwise unexplained circumstances. Detectives remained at the Boulder Lake Avenue home Wednesday as they examined the scene and worked to establish what happened before police were contacted.
The investigation affected traffic around the residence. Police initially said streets near the home could remain closed for roughly eight to 10 hours while detectives processed the scene. Another local report said Boulder Lake Avenue could be affected for as long as 12 hours.
The deaths remained under investigation Wednesday. Police had not released the victims’ identities, a motive or a final account of the circumstances surrounding the shooting, and officials said additional information would be released as the investigation developed.
