SUSQUEHANNA COUNTY, Pa. — A tragic incident unfolded Thursday morning in northeastern Pennsylvania, where two state troopers were shot while responding to a welfare check, following the fatal shooting of a local woman by her neighbor. According to Pennsylvania State Police, 57-year-old Lori Wasko was shot outside her home on State Route 171 around 11 a.m. Her boyfriend alerted authorities, prompting the response from law enforcement.
As Troopers Joseph Perechinsky and William Jenkins arrived at the scene, they were ambushed by gunfire from 61-year-old Carmine Faino, who had been armed with a rifle. Police said that both troopers suffered serious injuries and were subsequently airlifted to a nearby medical facility. Faino was killed during the encounter.
During a press conference held later in the evening, state police confirmed that both troopers are now in stable condition but are facing a challenging recovery.
